What is The History Of Jerusalem

Jerusalem is the only city in the world that is considered sacred by Jews, Christians and Muslims.

The British general, Sir Edmund Allen B., was so obsessed with the sanctity of Jerusalem that when he entered the city via Bab al-Khalil to defeat the Ottoman forces and capture Jerusalem, he walked instead of riding a horse or a chariot. Prefer to walk.

This event took place on December 11, 1917, one hundred years before today

British Prime Minister David Lloyd George wrote on the occasion that "the Christian world has regained its sanctuary after the capture of the world's most famous city."

Newspapers from all over the Western world celebrated the victory. The New York Herald included: "Britain has liberated Jerusalem following 673 years in power. There is a flood of incredible happiness in the Christian world

Excerpt from the New York Herald
US President Donald Trump has announced that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, exactly 100 years after the incident, although countries around the world have warned him that the announcement could spark a new wave of violence in the region.

Jerusalem has been plundered many times, its inhabitants have been forcibly deported many times, and countless wars have been fought in its streets in which rivers of blood have flowed.

The mayor of Jerusalem, Hussein Hussein (third from right), handed over the keys to the city to the British in 1917.
Holy city
It is the only city in the world that is considered sacred by Jews, Christians and Muslims. The Jews believe that this is the place from which the universe was created and it was here that the Prophet Abraham prepared the sacrifice of his son.

* Christians believe that Jesus was crucified here and that his holiest church is located here.

* According to the belief of Muslims, the Prophet of Islam had led all the prophets in Al-Aqsa Mosque in the same city before ascending.

That is why Muslims and Christians have been fighting for this city for a thousand years.

Crusades

The Muslims first captured the city in 638, defeating the Byzantines under the second caliph, Umar. This event was a great tragedy in the Christian world. Finally, in 1095, Pope Urban II campaigned across Europe, urging Christians to gather troops to liberate Jerusalem from the Muslims. As a result, in 1099, a combined army of people, princes, and kings succeeded in liberating Jerusalem.

This was the First Crusade.

However, most of the soldiers soon returned to their homeland and finally Sultan Salahuddin Ayubi succeeded in liberating the city after 90 years.

Once again unrest spread in Europe and four more crusades were fought in a row, but they failed to expel the Muslims from Jerusalem.

However, in 1229, the Mamluk ruler Al-Kamil surrendered Jerusalem to Frederick II without a fight. But only 15 years later, Khwarizmi recaptured the city, which remained under Muslim occupation for the next 673 years.

The American newspaper pointed to those 673 years.

From 1517 to 1917, the city was part of the Ottoman Empire and the Ottoman sultans paid special attention to the management of the city. They built a wall around the city, built roads and set up a postal system, while in 1892 a railway line was laid here.

Jerusalem is one of the holiest places for Christians
Two parts
The city remained part of the British Empire for three decades after the capture of General Allen B., during which time Jews from all over the world began to settle here. Finally, in 1947, the United Nations approved the division of the city into two parts, which divided not only Palestine into two parts, but also Jerusalem into two parts, the eastern part of which was occupied by the Palestinians. The western part was handed over to the Jews.

The following year, Israel declared independence. This was unacceptable to the Arab world. They attacked together but were defeated.

The weeping wall where the Jews come and cry
For the next two decades, the eastern part of Jerusalem remained under Jordanian rule, but was also occupied by Israel in the 1967 war. To this day, the international community considers the occupation illegal.

The Israeli parliament has had Jerusalem as its capital since 1950, but other countries have established embassies in Tel Aviv instead of Jerusalem in deference to the UN resolution.

Now US President Donald Trump has broken that tradition. Thus, the United States became the first country to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

In 1000 BC, the Prophet David conquered the city and made it the capital of his kingdom
The Israeli poet Judas Umayyad wrote that "Jerusalem is a coastal city on the shores of eternity." This can be gauged from this short timeline of Jerusalem:

5000 BC: According to archaeologists, there was a human population in Jerusalem even 7,000 years ago. As such, it is one of the oldest cities in the world
1000 BC: The Prophet David conquered the city and made it the capital of his kingdom
960 BC: Prophet Solomon, son of David, builds a temple in Jerusalem called the Temple of Solomon.
589 BC: Nebuchadnezzar plunders the city and deportes the Jews
539 BC: The Achaemenid ruler Cyrus the Great captures Jerusalem and allows the Jews to return.
30 AD: Roman soldiers crucify Jesus Christ
638: Muslims capture the city
691 - Umayyad ruler Abdul Malik builds the Dome of the Rock
1099 - Christian Crusaders capture the city
1187: Salahuddin Ayubi defeats the Crusaders and expels them from the city
1229 - Frederick II captures Jerusalem without a fight
1244: Muslim occupation again
1517 - Sultan Salim I annexes Jerusalem to the Ottoman Empire
1917: English General Alan B. defeats the Ottomans and enters the city
1947 - United Nations divides the city into Palestinian and Jewish parts
1948 - Israel's Declaration of Independence is divided between Israel and Jordan
1967 - Israeli occupation of both parts of the Arab War
