Pope Francis, a Catholic clergyman, has said that people of the same sex should be allowed social and legal protection.

A documentary called "Francisco" was screened at the Rome Film Festival in which Pope Francis for the first time openly spoke in favor of making social protection laws for homosexuals.

Pope Francis added that he was also a servant of God and had the right to have a family.

Gay people likewise reserve the privilege to have a family," he said. There is a need to make social laws in such manner, with the goal that gay people can be lawfully secured.

Pope Francis opposes same-sex marriage, saying marriage should only be between a man and a woman.
