World Bicycle Day

 World Bicycle Day

United Nations

The United Nations has declared June 3, 2018, as World Bicycle Day every year to change attitudes around the world at the governmental, collective and individual levels that promote the use of bicycles.
The effects of the rapid motorization of the world over the past three decades can be clearly seen in our country as well. The ever-increasing number of motorcycles and cars has hidden bicycles in the past. Now bicycles can be seen on the streets of the city. There is a storm of motor vehicles on the roads. If we take the time between the last two censuses. So it turns out that between 1998 and 2017, the number of registered motor vehicles in the country increased by 400%. In contrast, our country's population as a whole has grown by 57% during this period. A motorcycle is a ride that has abandoned bicycles in the country.

The number increased of  motorcycle

The number increased by 657%   during the period. And currently   there is an average of one   registered motorcycle owned by   every 13th person in the country.   In 1998, on average, one in 63   people had a registered   motorcycle. Motorcycles   currently make up 73% of the   registered motor vehicles in the   country. According to the   Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey 2017-18, 54.1% or half of the households in the country currently own a motorcycle. Our rural areas are not immune to the effects of this motorization. Where 49.4% of households have a motorcycle.

According to the World country

These rides are available in 61.6% of urban households .According to the Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey 2006-07, 40.7% of households in the country had bicycles at that time. That proportion dropped to 27.8 percent in 2012-13, and now, according to the latest PDHS, only 20.3 percent of the country's households have a bicycle in 2017-18.
In the last ten years, the proportion of households owning bicycles in urban areas has fallen from 37.5 per cent to 17.7 per cent and in rural areas from 42.4 per cent to 21.9 per cent. One of the main reasons for the decline in bicycle ownership in the country and the increase in motorcycle ownership is the improvement in the economic condition of the people. Are there? Take the Netherlands, for example, where 99% of the population rides a bicycle. With 80% of the cycling population, Denmark is the second most popular cycling country in the world. Germany ranks third with 76% cycling.

Cycling is carried out by 64% of Sweden, 60% of Finland, 57% of Japan, 49% of Switzerland, 48% of Belgium and 37% of the tenth-ranked China. The lack of ownership of a bicycle and the tendency to ride it have nothing to do with comfort. Rather, it is a reflection of that negative thinking
In which the bicycle has been linked to our social status. Cycling is the easiest and most natural way to get around after walking. It has multifaceted benefits for health, the environment, the economy and society. Even today, its widespread use in the conscious countries of the world is certainly both astonishing and instructive for us. According to a World Bank blog, "More than 2 billion bicycles are currently being used on the planet. And 50% of the world's people know how to ride a bicycle. According to a research paper published in the Journal of Transport and Health, "Trekking Global Bicycle Ownership Patterns", "42% of the world's households have a bicycle."

                  Another aspect of bicycles

There is another aspect of bicycles that is declining and that is its production. Because statistics show that the production of bicycles in the country is declining. According to the analysis of Pakistan Statistical Air Book 2015 and 2017 statistics, 486,300 bicycles were manufactured in the country in 2006-07. This number has come down to 202,000 in 2016-17. In other words, in these 10 years, the production of bicycles in the country has halved (54%). In contrast, 15.5 million bicycles were manufactured in India in 2012-13, accounting for 10% of global production. China makes 67% of the world's bicycles. India is second with 10% and Taiwan is third with 4%

 World demand

Similarly, 30% of the world's bicycle demand is from China. 20% is in Europe, 17% in the US and 10% in India. According to the report of the Confederation of European Bicycle Industry, European Bicycle Market 2017 Edition, in 2016, 16.666 million bicycles were manufactured in 28 countries of the European Union. During the year, 19.6 million bicycles were sold. Of the 28 EU countries, Germany had the highest number of bicycles sold in 2016. The number was 4 million 50 thousand. Which accounted for 21% of bicycle sales in these EU countries. The UK was second with 16% of bicycle sales. France was third with 15 percent.
